Lincoln County Sheriff Recall Petition Circulating

By Beacon Staff

Elections officials in Lincoln County have approved the wording of a petition seeking the recall of Sheriff Daryl R. Anderson.

A group of Eureka-area residents allege Anderson failed to properly investigate a series of rape complaints, didn’t investigate a dog’s death as an animal cruelty case and denied a man a concealed weapons permit without a written statement of probable cause.

Anderson says his office investigated the rape complaints that were made, saying some of the complaints were unfounded, while other alleged victims have not filed a complaint.

Investigators say there was no evidence the dog had been beaten and Anderson says he denied the concealed weapons permit because the applicant was involved with the Freemen uprising of 1996.

The petition must be signed by at least 1,946 people — 15 percent of the number of residents registered to vote in Lincoln County’s last general election — to force a countywide special election.
