THE WINE SPY: Bergstrom Old Stones Chardonnay

By Beacon Staff

Location: Uncorked, at the Blue Cow Complex on U.S. Highway 93 in Kalispell

Wine People: Ron Scharfe, owner, along with Andrew Topel, wine specialist and Nicole Albee, cheese specialist, are some of the foremost experts in the area on fine wines and cheeses.

Appearance: Just what you would expect from a wine store. Great selection, experienced staff, exquisite cheeses (that you are welcome to taste) and a wide variety of items to make gift baskets.

Target Wine: Bergstrom Old Stones Chardonnay

Industry Score: The winery didn’t send it out to be rated. I’d give it a 90+. The crew at Uncorked told me that “so many people have bought case after case and are still coming back for more … that beats out any rating system.”

Uncorked Price: $19.99

Deal: Tastes like a $50+ bottle of wine. When you are told a wine is very expensive tasting but it won’t break the bank, proceed with caution as I did. This wine will not disappoint.

Official Tasting: This wine has classic aromas of hazelnut, pear, Meyer lemon and whipping cream. It has excellent sweetness, good structure and a long complex finish.

*The Meyer lemon (Citrus × meyeri) is a citrus fruit, native to China, thought to be a cross between a true lemon and a mandarin orange or sweet orange.
