Some Montana Businesses Angry Over Shopping E-mail

By Beacon Staff

MISSOULA – An e-mail from the Missoula Chamber of Commerce promoting a shopping trip to a city two states away has some local business owners angry.

The e-mail sent to chamber members, featured an advertisement from the Holiday Inn Express in Spokane promoting a shopping spree in the Washington city.

Business Improvement District Director Rod Austin says that in this economy local businesses need all the help they can get.

J. Elaine’s Boutique owner Kim Klages-Johns says she feels like she’s been kicked in the gut. She goes to work everyday praying that business picks up.

Chamber president Kim Latrielle says the Spokane hotel is a member of the local chamber, and membership allows it to send an e-mail blast to all chamber members. She says that’s where the e-mail came from.
