LIVINGSTON – A Montana state lawmaker who is a member of legislative wildlife committee will not contest a citation for a hunting violation that he self reported.
Rep. Joel Boniek, of Livingston, notified game officials on Nov. 28 that he had shot a spike buck instead of a mule deer doe for which he had obtained a hunting tag.
The Republican posted the $135 bond for the subsequent ticket and on Tuesday forfeited his right to contest the citation.
Boniek said Wednesday that he made a mistake.
Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks Game Warden Sgt. Joe Knarr says it can be difficult to tell a small-antlered buck from a doe.
Boniek is a hunting guide and is a member of the state House Fish, Wildlife and Parks Committee.
