Lakeside Family Donates Land for Ambulance Hall

By Beacon Staff

Long-time Lakeside residents Al and Cora Luna donated two acres of land to the Lakeside QRU for a new ambulance hall last week.

The lot is about 500 feet west of the Lakeside Fire Hall the QRU has been sharing with the Somers Fire Department on Bill’s Road. This land donation and financial donations from the past couple of years will allow construction to begin in Spring 2010 and the QRU hopes to move into the partially finished building by Fall 2010.

Here’s some more info from a press release from QRU President Steve Rosso about the new hall:

The QRU is planning a building that will have three garage bays to house the current ambulance and provide space for 2 more in the future. When finished there will also be overnight accommodations for staff that will likely be needed to provide immediate response 24 hours a day as the district grows. The new building will include a meeting facility for training and will be available for community functions. The new building will, of course, have more storage for supplies and equipment and room for growth. As the community grows, current landing sites for the ALERT helicopter will start to disappear or become too busy to use in an emergency. So there will be a permanent landing site for ALERT at one end of the property.
