Theater to Give Free Show for Smurfit-Stone Employees

By Beacon Staff

MISSOULA – The Missoula Community Theatre will offer a free performance of its upcoming production to laid-off Smurfit-Stone employees and their families.

Theater CEO Jim Caron says the group is inviting the employees to a special production of the Neil Simon play, “The Sunshine Boys.”

Smurfit-Stone Container Corp. announced this month that it will close its paper mill near Frenchtown, eliminating 417 manufacturing jobs in western Montana.

Caron said the theater is still working on the details of the free performance for Smurfit employees, including how and when tickets will be distributed.

The theater group’s touring wing also plans to offer a free weeklong theater workshop for students in Frenchtown.
