Montana Furniture Galleries Across the State Are Closing

By Beacon Staff

BOZEMAN – The president of Montana Furniture Industries says the company is going out of business, the victim of the downturn in the economy.

Greg Metzger says more than 70 people will lose their jobs in the coming weeks as he closes his wood furniture factory near Bozeman and five Montana Furniture Galleries stores.

The Kalispell store is closed, stores in Missoula, Helena and Billings have begun going-out-of-business sales and Bozeman’s sale will start next week. The company employs 48 people at the factory and has four to six employees at each store.

The company, started in 1984, built heirloom-quality Mission-style furniture out of oak, cherry, walnut and alder that was sold at its Montana stores and distributed to vendors in other states. Metzger led a group of investors that bought the company in 1996.
