PLACES: Lawrence Park

By Beacon Staff

With the receding snow and the warming weather, Lawrence Park in Kalispell is an ideal place to dust off the bikes and walking shoes. A little more than a mile of blacktop trails weaves its way through pavilions, playground equipment and ball fields. The trail is accessible from anywhere in the park and ends at North Main Street and Whitefish Stage Road.

The park is a popular place for play dates and is great for family outings. Pavilions – the larger containing electricity, a grill and lights – are available for large gatherings while the playground equipment with slides and swings is perfect for kids to spend some winter energy.

The most impressive aspect of Lawrence Park is its vast space. Although located near the center of downtown Kalispell, walking through the park’s open areas, following the path along the Stillwater River or relaxing in the shade under trees near the walking bridge feels like an escape from the city.

Custom-made baskets for Frisbee golf are located around the park. Play can sometimes be difficult as the course crosses the popular park space.

How to get there: From downtown Kalispell, continue north on North Main Street. It will verge slightly to the right as U.S. Highway 93 curves left. Turn right at the sign for Lawrence Park before heading up the hill to Buffalo Hills Golf Course.
