BOZEMAN – Montana officials say four people have lost their hunting and fishing privileges in the last year under a new law meant to protect state-owned property from vandalism.
Approved by the Legislature last year, the law was meant to put more teeth into convictions for damaging or trespassing on property controlled by Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks.
Since the law went into effect, two men from Helena, one from Bozeman and one from Livingston have lost their hunting and fishing privileges for at least two years.
They were convicted for offenses included knocking over a dozen signs at a public boat ramp near Livingston, shooting up latrine doors at a public access site on the Madison River and hill climbing with a vehicle at Black Sandy State Park north of Helena.
