High School Journalists Rake in the Awards

By Beacon Staff

It looks like both Kalispell high schools are producing some talented journalists. Publications and students at Flathead and Glacier were recently recognized by the Montana Journalism Education Association. Some notable awards:

• The Arrow, Flathead’s monthly newspaper, won first place in “public service reporting” for an eight-page section it produced on drug, alcohol and marijuana use.

• Glacier’s yearbook won second place in both “theme development” and “cover design.”

• Ashley Crevier, a junior at Flathead, won third place for opinion writing.

• Flathead junior Katherine Ohlson, <a href="http://www.flatheadbeacon.com/articles/article/on_the_sidelines_a_photographer_is_born/13011/" title="who the Beacon profiled here”>who the Beacon profiled here, received awards for sports, news and feature photography

• Flathead’s Madison Evans was named “Montana’s Yearbook Journalist of the Year.”

Congratulations to all you fledgling journalists and remember to keep the Beacon in mind when you’re looking for an internship in a couple years.
