FORT COLLINS, Colo. – A Montana truck driver who destroyed a lithograph that she considered sacrilege in a Colorado museum must pay restitution of $2,991.13.
Authorities say 47-year-old Kathleen Folden used a crowbar to smash a Plexiglass case, and then she tore the lithograph to pieces Oct. 6 at a city-owned museum in Loveland. Critics say the piece portrayed Jesus in a sex act.
A Larimer County District Court judge on Monday ordered Folden to pay $1,064.76 to the city for staff time worked during the incident and $1,926.37 to the Colorado Intergovernmental Risk Sharing Agency, which compensated the artwork’s owner for the damage.
Prosecutors had sought $6,748.
Folden, of Kalispell, pleaded guilty in November to misdemeanor criminal mischief. Her sentence included probation and orders to perform public service and get mental health treatment.
