Injured Whitefish Skydiver Faces Several Operations

By Beacon Staff

MISSOULA — The sister of a veteran Whitefish skydiver who suffered a broken pelvis and other injuries when he crashed outside Washington Grizzly Stadium before a Montana football game says he faces several operations.

But many people are calling 53-year-old Blaine Wright courageous because when he realized he was not going to make it to the football field, and possibly land in the crowd, he swung around and tried to land outside the stadium. However, he clipped a tree and slammed onto a concrete retaining wall.

Beth Cole tells the Missoulian her brother was “positive and upbeat,” but does not remember the crash that also broke his hip, leg and arm.

University officials say they are re-evaluating their relationship with the Silvertip Skydivers and the safety of continuing the jumps.
