HELENA — Fish, Wildlife and Parks officials say Montana’s 2011 general big game hunting season will end Sunday evening, as planned, while wolf hunting will continue at least through the end of the year.
Wildlife Bureau Chief Ken McDonald said Friday the agency does not plan to extend the big game hunting season in any areas of the state this year. He says if specific population or damage problems emerge, the agency will use management seasons or damage hunts to address them.
Montana’s wolf hunting season will remain open in most wolf management units through Dec. 31 and may be extended until Jan. 31. Montana hunters have harvested 96 of the allowed 220 wolves so far. Wolf hunting is closed in the management unit that covers the south-central and southeastern part of the state.
