By Beacon Staff

An inmate of the Flathead County Detention Center attempted to escape from a Dec. 22 hearing at Flathead County Justice Court.

According to Sheriff Chuck Curry, Jonathan George Graves, 23, of Missoula, assaulted an officer during his initial appearance at and ran from the courtroom. Another court security officer deployed a Taser to stop Graves and engaged in a physical altercation with the escapee, along with a bystander and a Montana Highway Patrol officer. The incident occurred at about 3:30 p.m.

One assaulted officer was taken to Kalispell Regional Medical Center and released after evaluation.

Graves was taken into custody and secured in the detention center. Curry said Graves has been in custody at the Flathead County Detention Center since Dec. 10 on charges of burglary, theft, two counts of violating conditions of release, resisting arrest, obstructing a peace officer and two felony warrants in Lake County. His total bond is $115,000.

Curry said the attempted escape is being investigated, but he said it will lead to additional charges against Graves.
