Bull Elk, Buck Permit Deadline Approaching

By Beacon Staff

HELENA — Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks is reminding hunters that the deadline for bull elk and buck deer permit applications has been moved up to March 15.

Agency spokesman Ron Aasheim tells the Helena Independent Record that the change is intended to give hunters three extra months to plan hunts.

He says results of the permit drawings will be available at the end of April.

But officials say not all hunters are aware of the earlier deadline.

FWP Commissioner Ron Moody says even avid hunters have said they were unaware of the March 15 deadline.

Aasheim says the agency is trying to inform hunters in various ways, including distributing posters about the change to license providers.
