Kalispell Police Investigating Stabbing

By Beacon Staff

The Kalispell Police Department is investigating a stabbing that occurred on May 20. The stabbing was apparently the result of an escalated fist fight, according to a statement from the department.

Police responded to the scene near Financial Drive at 2:40 a.m., where they found the 25-year-old victim. He was taken to Kalispell Regional Medical Center and underwent emergency surgery for multiple stab wounds.

Detective Senior Sgt. Scott Warnell investigated the scene, and though the series of events that led to the stabbing are still under review, believes the victim and the 24-year-old suspect had agreed to meet each other to settle a disagreement with a fist fight.

The fight escalated quickly, police say, and led to someone shooting a firearm and the stabbing. Alcohol consumption looks to be a contributing factor in the incident.

KPD reported that the victim and his girlfriend both knew the suspect and he has provided investigators with a preliminary statement.

The victim is in stable condition at KRMC, and KPD is withholding the names of all parties at this time.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call Det. Sgt. Scott Wamell at 406-758-7793.
