Montana Congressman Denny Rehberg was quick to condemn Republican colleague Missouri Rep. Todd Akin’s comment that women’s bodies can prevent pregnancies if they are victims of “a legitimate rape.”
“As a pro-life conservative, a husband, and a father of two young women, I find Representative Akin’s remarks to be offensive and reprehensible. There is no such thing as a ‘legitimate rape.’ I condemn Representative Akin’s statements in the strongest possible terms.”
Rehberg also took steps to donate the money he received from Akin’s Takin Back America PAC to the Florence Crittenton Center in Helena. From POLITICO:
Rehberg’s decision to give Akin’s contribution to charity is the most active step a major Republican Senate candidate has taken to distance himself from the Missouri congressman.
Rehberg is running for Montana Democratic Sen. Jon Tester’s seat. Tester called Akin’s comments “another irresponsible setback” in the fight for women’s rights.
