EXPLORE: Stumptown Ice Den

By Beacon Staff

While the leaves have fallen, it’s still too early to lace those skates and hit the lakes. But winter has arrived at the Stumptown Ice Den, where it doesn’t matter what the temperature is outside.

Operated by the city of Whitefish, the ice rink opened for the season in September.

There are a variety of activities offered at the rink, from joining an adult hockey league to just skating around. And don’t worry if you don’t have skates – everything you need is available for rent onsite.

Most weeks, Monday through Friday, except Thursday, people are welcome to come by from 6:30 a.m. to 8 a.m. to play hockey.

Starting at 10 a.m., the rink is available for public skating, which usually lasts until 11:45, 12:45 or 1:45, depending on the day.

More public skate times are generally available throughout the day and weekends. Be sure to check www.stumptowniceden.com for skate times or call (406) 863-2477.

How to get there:

From downtown Whitefish, drive north on Wisconsin Avenue over the viaduct.

The Stumptown Ice Den is about a mile north.
