Montana Highway Patrol Chief Retires

By Beacon Staff

HELENA — The leader of the Montana Highway Patrol has retired after almost four years as chief and nearly 28 years with the agency.

Col. Mike Tooley’s last day on the job was Tuesday.

He began his career with the speed enforcement squad, became a division commander in 2002 and a lieutenant colonel in 2004.

Under Montana law, the attorney general will name Tooley’s replacement.
