By Beacon Staff

HELENA – Gov. Steve Bullock says that former First Lady Betty Babcock will lie in state at the Capitol on Thursday.

Babcock died Sunday in Helena. She was 91.

Babcock was involved in public service most of her life. She was the wife of former Republican Gov. Tim Babcock, who served as governor from 1962 to 1969.

She was a delegate to the Constitutional Convention delegate and a former state legislator.

Babcock will lie in state in the Capitol Rotunda on Thursday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Bullock says flags will be flown at half-staff.

Bullock lauded Babcock for playing an “instrumental role in shaping Montana.”

He says her legacy will live in the Montana Constitution she helped write and the Montana Capitol she helped restore.
