By Beacon Staff

GREAT FALLS – A 29-year-old Browning woman faces tribal court charges after a man was struck and killed as he walked along U.S. Highway 2 west of Browning.

The Great Falls Tribune reports the woman was charged by Blackfeet Tribal Police with negligent endangerment and failure to remain at the scene of a fatal accident. Her name has not been released.

The collision early Sunday killed 42-year-old Kensley Rattler.

The Montana Highway Patrol said the woman had been drinking at a bar and was driving eastbound at around 2 a.m. when the man was struck. The woman said she had been reading a text message and thought she hit an animal.

Officials say she was pulled over for a traffic violation shortly after 3 a.m. and her vehicle had damage consistent with hitting a pedestrian.
