The local unemployment rate continued to fall in May as nearly 200 jobs were added, according to the state’s Department of Labor.

Flathead’s non-seasonally adjusted jobless rate dropped from 6.6 percent in April to 5.6 percent in May, the labor department announced last week. The local labor force grew to nearly 44,169 jobs. Montana’s unemployment rate dropped 0.2 percentage points over the month for a rate of 4.6 percent in May. The U.S. unemployment rate held steady at 6.3 percent.

Lake County’s jobless rate fell to 5.6 percent last month. Lincoln County improved by nearly 3 percentage points, landing at 10.6 percent. It remained the only county in the state with a rate in double digits, though. Glacier County fell to 8.9 percent.
