A 28-year-old Whitefish man was killed Thursday night when he was hit by a car on Wisconsin Avenue, the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office announced Friday morning.
Jared Frederick Kinney was riding his bicycle near the intersection of Wisconsin Avenue and Edgewood Place when the vehicle struck him just before 9:30 p.m. According to the Whitefish Police Department, Kinney was pinned under the vehicle and EMTs had to use airbags to lift it off of him. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Police Chief Bill Dial said it appears the man was biking against traffic and did not have a headlight at the time of the accident.
Kinney had recently moved to Whitefish from Wayland, New York.
The Whitefish Police Department and the Montana Highway Patrol are investigating the incident.
