Montanans Are Counting on Medicaid Expansion

A bipartisan group of elected officials made a statement to the federal governmen

By Paula Kosted

Every paycheck, Montanans are sending their hard-earned dollars to pay for other states’ health care programs. I am sick of seeing people across the country use my tax dollars for health care while my Montana neighbors are still not covered.

Finally this year, Montana was fed up and decided to bring our tax dollars back home. A bipartisan group of elected officials made a statement to the federal government that we want to see the money we send them make a difference in Montana. Gov. Steve Bullock and Great Falls Sen. Ed Buttrey heard the people of our state and compromised on a plan that will get the money I send the federal government on tax day back into Montana. Now instead of seeing other states use my paycheck, the federal government will have to use my taxes to extend Montana healthcare, create Montana jobs, and help rural Montana hospitals.

Bullock is about to submit the plan to the federal government for approval. The feds should approve it quickly. Montanans are counting on it.
