The Evergreen man accused of killing his girlfriend’s 2-year-old son is scheduled to appear at a change of plea hearing next week.

The hearing on Feb. 10 at 11 a.m. will come nearly a year after Brandon Walter Lee Newberry allegedly beat Forrest Groshelle to death. A notice of the hearing was filed in Flathead County District Court on Feb. 4 but a plea deal had yet to be published in court records.

Newberry, 22, pleaded not guilty to deliberate homicide in February 2015. He was expected to go to trial next month.

According to court documents, Groshelle died from a laceration of the small intestine that slowly poisoned the boy. During an interview with law enforcement, Newberry admitted to “roughhousing” with the child in the days before he died.
