BILLINGS — Authorities say the wife of a southern Montana man who died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound during a law enforcement standoff was also found dead.
The Billings Gazette reports the Park County Coroner’s Office said in a release that 58-year-old Margaret Dunakin was found Saturday alongside her husband, 59-year-old James Dunakin.
The Sweet Grass County Sheriff’s Office had responded to reports of shots fired at the couple’s home near Reed Point. Officers entered the home after an hourslong standoff to find Dunakin dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Evidence shows Margaret Dunakin died from two gunshot wounds, one of them self-inflicted.
Authorities had issued a warrant days before the standoff to fingerprint James Dunakin in connection with drugs found at two area schools.
The case remains under investigation.
