POPLAR — A Poplar man who told police in January that his girlfriend had killed herself has been charged with murder.
Delvin Red Eagle pleaded not guilty earlier this month to shooting Roxanne Morsette with a rifle. He faces federal charges of second-degree murder and use and discharge of a firearm during a crime of violence.
The 23-year-old Red Eagle was arraigned June 15 in U.S. District Court in Great Falls.
Ken Trottier is the Fort Peck Tribes’ supervisory criminal investigator and the lead investigator in the death of the 25-year-old Morsette.
Trottier said Tuesday that Red Eagle had called police in January to report his girlfriend had died by suicide.
Trottier says the investigation found nothing in the home where Morsette died was consistent with a suicide.
He declined to elaborate, citing the pending case.
