HELENA — A semitrailer hauling livestock went off US Highway 89 southeast of Browning and down an embankment, killing five cows.
The truck — hauling more than 20 cows, 19 calves and a bull — crossed the highway, hit a guardrail and went 80 feet down an embankment, ending up on its side near the Two Medicine River.
Trooper Kurt Miller said the driver suffered minor injuries. The crash is still under investigation and Miller declined to identify the driver or say if he faced any citations.
Miller said state livestock inspectors and local ranchers helped round up the startled cattle.
