Three FVCC Trustees Elected by Acclamation

College officials estimate that cancelling the election will save taxpayers approximately $30,000

The Flathead Valley Community College Board of Trustees held a special telephone conference meeting on March 30 and voted to cancel the May 2 election due to an insufficient number of candidates filing for the open board positions.

State law allows the trustees to cancel an election if the number of candidates filing for vacant positions or filing a declaration of intent to be a write-in candidate is equal to or less than the number of positions to be elected. College officials estimate that cancelling the election will save taxpayers approximately $30,000.

One of the positions is a three-year term in the Flathead and Glacier High School District. Stephanie Wallace of Kalispell was elected by acclamation to fill the position, which will expire in May 2020. The remaining two positions are three-year terms in the Bigfork, Columbia Falls and Whitefish High School districts. Kelly Stimpson of Bigfork and Pete Akey of Whitefish were elected by acclamation to fill these positions, which will also expire in May 2020.

The FVCC Board of Trustees is the governing body of the college. The trustees are charged with the primary responsibilities of establishing college policies and selecting a president to administer the operations of the institution.

The next regularly scheduled FVCC Board of Trustees meeting will take place April 25 at 3:45 p.m. in room 140 of Blake Hall on the Kalispell campus.
