Good morning; today is the anniversary of Franklin D. Roosevelt’s signing of Executive Order 9066, which led to the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II.
On the Beacon Web site, this morning, our top story is ourselves (It doesn’t hurt that it’s a pretty slow news day). We’ve given the Web site a makeover and rearranged the location of some of our features. From now on, the News Buffet and Police Blotter will remain in permanent positions on the front page of the site. In other news, there’s not a ton of big events coming out of the long holiday weekend. As evidence of that, the discovery of nine puppies in a hollowed out log west of Kalispell is statewide news. Wicked fast boats are coming to Polson this summer, with a series of hydroplane races scheduled for July on the Flathead River. The U.S. Supreme Court today allowed Montana to move ahead with its lawsuit against Wyoming, which charges that Wyoming is using too much water from the Tongue and Powder Rivers. A meteor was sighted this morning across large areas of Washington and Western Montana.
And finally, in the world of presidential politics, and equally powerful Swedish super groups, Abba told Republican presidential hopeful John McCain he can’t use the song “Take A Chance on Me” at campaign events. Although it wasn’t as bad as the band Boston’s pushback against Mike Huckabee for using “More Than A Feeling.” Enjoy this sunny day.
