Fight Charge Against Former Dillon Mayor Dropped

By Beacon Staff

BUTTE – The charge against a former Dillon mayor who was involved in a fist fight has been dropped following a recommendation from the prosecutor.

Madison County Attorney Chris Christensen recommended the misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct against former mayor George Warner be dismissed.

Christensen said he decided to drop the charge following the acquittal this month of Nils Troedsson, a former councilman who was involved in the fight and faced the same charge.

Earlier this month, Justice of the Peace Bob Lee ruled that Troedsson was defending himself when he punched Warner in August.

The fight outside downtown Dillon’s Longhorn Saloon occurred after Troedsson and Warner exchanged strong words about an effort to recall Mayor Marty Malesich, who remains in office.

Troedsson alleged Warner chased him and confronted him in a threatening way, prompting Troedsson to punch him.

Warner has said it was Troedsson who made the first aggressive move and punched him in the jaw. He vowed to fight the charge and planned to represent himself at trial.
