On the Beacon this morning, local artist Dwayne Harris is drawing the latest Warhammer comic book series, “Crown of Destruction.” Glacier High’s Shay Smithwick-Hann continues the valley’s storied quarterback tradition. While golf’s popularity is declining nationwide, it’s exploding in the Flathead Valley with after-school programs enjoying record enrollment. And Flathead County Commissioners are accelerating their plan for takeover of Whitefish’s “planning doughnut.”
In state news, Gov Brian Schweitzer says he has no interest in a cabinet position should Democrat Barack Obama win the presidency. The writing community in Missoula is mourning the loss of one of its finest, crime novelist Jim Crumley, who died Wednesday. In the state’s most heated legislative race, for Senate District 22, misleading push polling has the Democratic incumbent, Lane Larson, crying foul. Montana farmers and ranchers say the U.S. Department of Agriculture is aggravating attempts to do Country of Origin Labeling on American food products. Three Helena men appeared in court yesterday for torturing and killing two dozen cats.
