Trial Dates Set for Alcohol Servers in Fatal Crash

By Beacon Staff

June trial dates have been set for two bowling alley employees charged with serving alcohol after hours to a Columbia Falls man killed in a head-on crash with a Montana Highway Patrol trooper.

Nathan Hale and Diane Pickavance are charged with serving co-worker Travis Vandersloot at Pick’s Bowling Alley in Bigfork on March 23, 2009.

Vandersloot, who had 13 drinks over 3½ hours, later crashed his vehicle into a car driven by Trooper Michael Haynes. Both men died.

Hale is charged with negligent endangerment, sale of alcoholic beverages during closed hours and providing alcoholic beverages to an intoxicated person. His trial is scheduled for June 30.

A June 16 trial is scheduled for bowling alley manager Pickavance for allowing Hale to serve alcohol after 2 a.m.
