Evergreen Chamber Opens Information Center

By Beacon Staff

The Evergreen Chamber of Commerce is opening a new tourist information center on the corner of U.S. Highway 2 and Montana Highway 35, in the K-Mart parking lot. The booth will be opening this week.

Local business leaders banded together in August 2012 to start the chamber of commerce as a way of promoting Evergreen. Located just east of Kalispell, Evergreen is Montana’s 16th largest community but is not an incorporated city and does not have a community council. The chamber hired Bev Farris as its first executive director.

“We’ve got a lot of goals and objectives,” Farris said.

Last year, the chamber accomplished one of those goals, installing welcome signage in Evergreen. Now visitors will also have a place to learn about local businesses, Farris said. The information center is a 12-by-16 foot log cabin and will be open daily at 8 a.m. Inside there will be brochures, posters and tourist information.

“It’s been a longtime coming, but we need to have a place for people to learn about the businesses in Evergreen,” Farris said. “The primary reason we’re here is to get the word out about Evergreen.”

The Evergreen Chamber of Commerce meets at Perkins restaurant, but Farris said the chamber’s long-term goal is to find a permanent office. For more information about the chamber, visit www.evergreencofc.com.
