Prep Football Roundup: Whitefish Upsets Columbia Falls

Top-ranked Glacier still unbeaten; Bigfork blasts Shelby in homecoming win

Whitefish 20, Columbia Falls 15

Luke May passed for 223 yards, Jack Streibich had 102 yards and two touchdowns and the Bulldogs upset the top-ranked Wildcats.

It was quite the homecoming celebration for Whitefish, which limited Columbia Falls to a pair of touchdowns and a field goal in the second half and dealt the top team in Class A its first defeat.

Chris Park rushed for 75 yards and a score in the third quarter to put the Bulldogs up 13-0. Columbia Falls’ Sean Hoerner answered with a six-yard TD catch from Dakota Bridwell in the third. Trevor Hoerner kicked a 24-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter to put Columbia Falls within 13-9. Strebich added his second TD, hauling in a 19-yard pass from May with roughly six minutes remaining in the game to make it 20-9. Tyler Murphy scored for the Wildcats on a 26-yard pass from Bridwell with barely five minutes left, but the two-point conversion failed and Whitefish held on to win.

Whitefish (3-2 overall, 1-0 in Northwestern A) travels to Polson (2-3, 0-1) on Friday. The Pirates lost to Frenchtown 44-21 on Sept. 26.

Columbia Falls (4-1, 0-1) has a bye week before hosting Frenchtown (1-4, 1-0) on Oct. 10 for its homecoming game.

Bigfork 43, Shelby 6

The 10th-ranked Vikings celebrated homecoming with a big win over the Coyotes, piling up 554 yards of offense while holding Shelby to 31 in a nonconference win.

Bigfork quarterback Josh Sandry completed 11 of 16 passes for 208 yards and two touchdowns.

Vinny Quirk rushed 26 times for 96 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Adam Jordt had two TD catches and finished with four catches for 94 yards and Jonathan Landon completed his only pass for 39 yards and a score. Isaac Martel caught four passes for 107 yards.

The Vikings (3-1 overall) travel to Troy (2-2 overall, 1-0 in Western 7B) on Friday.

Glacier 55, Butte 29

The top-ranked team in Class AA added another impressive victory on homecoming night.

Quarterback Brady McChesney completed 17 of 24 passes for 249 yards and three touchdowns, Thomas Trefney rushed for 102 yards and three TDs and the Wolfpack piled up 422 total yards.

Jacob Janke returned a kickoff 89 yards for a score, Josh Hill returned an interception 15 yards for a TD and Logan Jones added a pair of rushing TDs for Glacier. Caleb Jones also caught a TD pass.

The Wolfpack (5-0) travel to Missoula to play Big Sky (3-2) on Friday night.

Great Falls CMR 44, Flathead 14

The Rustlers jumped ahead 35-7 at halftime and cruised from there to victory over the Braves.

Josh McCracken rushed 13 times for 114 yards and a touchdown for Flathead. Easton Johnson also scored off a pass from Alex Croymans.

The Braves (2-3) host second-ranked Helena (5-0) at Legends Stadium on Friday.

Eureka 30, Thompson Falls 16

Garrett White scored two touchdowns to lead Eureka past Thompson Falls. Hames Dunn and Matthew Anderson also added TDs for the Lions. Dunn had 16 tackles on defense and Chase Bohne had two interceptions.

Eureka (2-3) travels to Missoula to play Loyola on Friday.
