ANACONDA — The parents of a first-grader at an Anaconda elementary school are angry after their daughter was inadvertently locked in a classroom while the school was evacuated due to a possible gas leak.

According to the Montana Standard, Dwyer Elementary Principal Norah Barney ordered the school evacuated Tuesday after a building engineer suspected a gas leak.

The 6-year-old girl was left locked inside a mobile classroom for about 35 minutes while her classmates and teacher stood outside. No gas leak was found and the other teachers and students were allowed to return to class.

School officials say they are reviewing their procedures after the parents said school officials should have taken a head count to make sure all students were safe.
