Kalispell Man Killed in Head-On Crash on Icy Highway 35

Authorities reported there was black ice along the road when the crash occurred early Tuesday

A Kalispell man was killed in a head-on collision on Montana Highway 35 early Feb. 3, the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office announced.

Ernest William Thureno, 62, was killed when his vehicle crashed into another vehicle driving the other direction at about 6:15 a.m. near mile marker 47 east of Kalispell. According to the sheriff’s office, the road was covered in black ice at the time of the wreck.

Thureno was pronounced dead at the scene.

The second man was transported by ambulance to Kalispell Regional Medical Center and his condition is unknown at this time.

The Montana Highway Patrol is investigating the incident and authorities have ruled out alcohol and drugs as a factor. Both individuals were wearing seatbelts.
