BILLINGS — Two Yellowstone County sheriff’s deputies involved in the fatal shooting of a suspect near Huntley have resigned.

Montana Public Employees Association spokeswoman Darcy Dahle tells The Billings Gazette that deputies Jason Robinson and Christopher Rudolph had resigned.

Sheriff Mike Linder released a statement Tuesday saying the resignations were effective on Feb. 13. Linder said he approved Robinson’s request to be transferred back to his former position at the jail.

Robinson and Rudolph were placed on paid administrative leave after firing numerous shots at a stolen vehicle driven by 28-year-old Loren Simpson.

The deputies had responded to two calls involving a purple Ford Explorer on Jan. 8 when they spotted the vehicle. The driver disappeared over a hill, but turned around and drove toward them. The officers said they fired because Simpson would not stop the vehicle.
