The Whitefish Wolverines junior hockey team clinched the No. 4 seed in the Western States Hockey League divisional standings, guaranteeing a playoff appearance for the first-year club.

The first playoff round will be held at Stumptown Ice Den in Whitefish, March 6 – 8. It will be a two out of three format. The Wolverines will likely play either Butte or Seattle.

The Wolverines are 17-27-1 in the division. Whitefish picked up an impressive victory earlier this month, defeating the Idaho Steelheads 6-1. Idaho is the top team in the league and one of the top junior hockey teams in the nation. The loss to Whitefish was the team’s first defeat in regulation time in 36 games.

The regular season finale is Feb. 27 when Whitefish travels to Missoula to take on the Maulers (33-9).
