Montana State Parks Expands Campground Reservation Options

The yurt rental season at Big Arm State Park has been extended to include shoulder season dates

By Beacon Staff

Montana State Parks announced that it has expanded campsite reservation availability at seven parks across the state, including West Shore and Big Arm.

For the 2015 season, all campsites at Placid Lake State Park, Salmon Lake State Park and Lewis & Clark Caverns State Park are fully reservable. All campsites in the Cains Coulee Campground at Makoshika State Park and all electrified sites at Tongue River State Park and West Shore State park are fully reservable, as well.

In addition to increasing the number of campsites available for reservation, the yurt rental season at Big Arm State Park has been extended to include shoulder season dates. Yurts may now be reserved April 14 through Oct. 15.

As state park campgrounds have grown in popularity, it has become necessary to expand the number of sites available for reservations, according to parks managers. Expanding the reservation system gives users more opportunity for campsites when planning trips, minimizes user conflicts, and ensures a campsite on arrival when users travel long distances.

The campsite reservation system is not intended to discourage spontaneous camping use in Montana’s state parks. All non-reserved sites will still be available on a first-come, first-serve basis with a guarantee of one night. Campers can register with Park Staff for additional nights based on the individual site’s availability.
