An Alberta man was arrested after he allegedly shot two people in Eureka on Wednesday evening.

Both people were transferred to Kalispell Regional Medical Center where they are recovering from non-life threatening injuries, according to authorities.

Michael Ilk, 40, of Alberta, Canada, was charged with two counts of assault with a weapon, according to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office. He is currently being held in the Lincoln County Detention Center in Libby.

According to the sheriff’s office, Eureka Dispatch received a 911 call from a 23-year-old woman shortly after 8 p.m. reporting that her ex-boyfriend had shot her and another man at the Eureka Hills Subdivision and that he was chasing them through town in a car. The woman gave a description of both vehicles and police were able to intercept them on U.S. Highway 93.

Officers tried to stop Ilk but he continued following the alleged victims who were driving toward the Eureka Law Enforcement Center. When the vehicles pulled into the law enforcement center parking lot, officers were able to order Ilk out of the vehicle and arrest him without incident.

Other officers quickly began to treat the two victims. The woman sustained two gunshot wounds, one to the leg and another to the arm. The male was also shot twice, once in the arm and again in the hand.

An investigation is ongoing.
