MISSOULA — An estranged husband who shot and killed his television news director wife and a family friend before turning the gun on himself died early Friday.
The shooting happened Wednesday evening at the Missoula home of ABC/Fox Montana news director Kalee Scolatti.
Scolatti, 34, called friend Anthony Dupras to the house after her husband, Nicholas Scolatti, showed up there, according to authorities.
Once Dupras arrived, Nicholas Scolatti, 36, shot them both, then shot himself in the head.
Kalee Scolatti and Dupras died that evening. Nicholas Scolatti was taken to a Missoula hospital, where he died from his injuries a day and a half later.
Police have not given a motive for the shooting.
Missoula Police Department spokesman Travis Welsh confirmed Kalee and Nicholas Scolatti were married but said he did not know of any previous domestic violence calls to the home.
Kalee Scolatti worked at the Missoula station since 2005 and became news director in January. She was born and raised in Missoula and was a graduate of the University of Montana School of Journalism, according to ABC/Fox Montana.
She and Nicholas Scolatti were married in 1999 and have three children. He had moved out recently after Kalee Scolatti told him she no longer wanted to be married, according to a story posted on the station’s website.
Dupras was the human resources and office director for a legal malpractice insurer in Missoula. He has two children.
About 50 people took part in a vigil for the victims Thursday night. Flowers and letters have been placed on the home’s front steps.
