Wardens Investigate Dog Poisoning Incidents Near Condon

Officials believe someone placed strychnine in hamburger and dropped it along the Owl Creek road

By Beacon Staff

State game wardens are investigating the poisoning of two dogs along a road near Condon.

Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks officials believe someone placed strychnine in hamburger and dropped it along the Owl Creek road south of Bigfork.

Last month, on two separate days, individuals took their dogs on walks along the road. Afterward, the animals started convulsing and died. Due to the similarity in cases, a veterinarian took samples and tested them, finding traces of poison.

Concerned with potential wildlife poisoning, wardens retraced the path in an effort to find some sort of attractant or poison.  One of the dog owners found what appeared to be colored grain in two different locations along Owl Creek road.

Samples were submitted to the Montana Department of Agriculture. Both samples returned positive for strychnine.
