POLSON — A 59-year-old Eureka man was reported missing after failing to return from a day hike in the Thunderbolt Mountain area, near the southern tip of Swan Lake.

KERR-AM of Polson reports search and rescue teams from the Swan Valley and Lake County along with a helicopter from Two Bear Air in Whitefish searched Wednesday and continued searching Thursday for William Hendrix.

Hendrix was last seen when he left for the hike at about 5 a.m. Tuesday. His wife reported him missing when he failed to return that evening. His pickup was found at the North Lost Creek trailhead.

Lake County Sheriff Don Bell says search and rescue crews have placed caches of food and survival supplies around the area.

Hendrix is 5 feet, 8 inches tall, 170 pounds with salt and pepper hair.
