Judge: ‘Unrepentant’ Resort Founder Should Stay in Jail

Blixseth has been jailed since April

BILLINGS — A federal judge has ordered the founder of a Montana resort for the ultra rich to remain jailed for contempt after not disclosing details from a 2011 property sale.

U.S. District Judge Sam Haddon said Wednesday that Yellowstone Club founder Tim Blixseth “remains unrepentant” and should remain incarcerated until he accounts for the $13.8 million from the sale of a resort in the Mexican state of Jalisco.

The Yellowstone Club near Big Sky went bankrupt after Blixseth gave up control to his ex-wife during their 2008 divorce. The club’s remaining creditors are seeking to collect on more than $250 million in judgments against Blixseth, but have so far recovered little money.

Blixseth has been jailed since April.

A legal petition from Blixseth seeking his release is pending before the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
