The horse has recovered and "was eating well and happy"

GREAT FALLS, Mont. (AP) — A veterinarian and a NorthWestern Energy crew were part of a rescue effort that helped bring a horse that got stuck in the mud in the Sun River to safety.

The Great Falls Tribune reports that veterinarian Kelly Manzer responded to the scene near Great Falls on March 7 after receiving a call from one of her clients who had spotted the struggling horse.

Manzer went down into the water and put straps around the horse’s body. A NorthWestern Energy crew that had been working nearby helped attach the straps to a cable from their truck’s boom.

They then lifted the mare out of the mud and up the steep river bank.

Manzer says the horse has recovered and “was eating well and happy.”

The horse’s owners were notified.
