A 30-year-old man who led police on a high-speed chase from Somers to Whitefish last month has been charged with criminal endangerment and assault.

Marcus Angel denied the allegations in Flathead County District Court last week.

According to court documents, on June 18, that Flathead County Sheriff’s Office received a report from Del’s Bar in Somers about a combative male. According to witnesses, Angel angrily shoved an ice machine at a bartender, breaking the machine and nearly hitting the woman behind the bar. Another patron told Angel to leave.

Angel then got into his car and left the scene, but not before someone reported his license plate number. A short while later, a Montana Highway Trooper tried to pull Angel over but he sped north. Angel allegedly drove through downtown Kalispell at speeds up to 55 miles per hour, nearly causing two different accidents. North of Kalispell, Angel allegedly hit speeds of more than 80 miles per hour. He was finally stopped in Whitefish where local police deployed a spike strip on U.S. Highway 93.

If convicted of felony criminal endangerment or misdemeanor assault, Angel could face up to 10 years in prison and a $50,000 fine.
