Group of professional scarers haunts the Fritz corn maze each year, providing thrills and chills for them and visitors alike

As you’re walking down a path mostly obscured by shadow, surrounded by cornstalks taller than most men, the fog begins to roll in. The field is quiet, but your ears are primed for anything — the snap of a twig cracks like a gunshot in your jumpy nerves. It doesn’t take much imagination to start scaring yourself, but you play it cool.

2nd Annual Halloween Family Boo Run

10 a.m., O’Shaughnessy Center, Whitefish

The entire family is encouraged to enjoy a morning of Halloween fun with this 5K run/walk. Costumes are encouraged but not required and prizes will be awarded to the best. Race begins and ends at the O’Shaughnessy Center. Pre-register at www.runsignup.com. Same-day registration available from 8:45-9:45 a.m. Cost is $20 for adults and $15 for children 12 and under. North Valley Eagles Halloween Costume Party

Halloween Party at Flathead Lake Brewing Company

Eat, drink and be scary with Flathead Lake Brewing Co. all Halloween weekend. There will be a costume party and live music with the Mike Murray Duo from 7-10 p.m. Judging for the contest will begin at 8 p.m. Prizes will be awarded for scariest, funniest and best couple. Haunted Pirate Ship Halloween Party

Check out this inaugural Haunted Pirate Ship Halloween Party. Admission is free. Come dressed as your favorite pirate and dance the night away to Billy Angel. Prizes will be awarded for the three best costumes.

Monday, Oct. 31

Trunk or Treat Family Event

4-7 p.m., FVCC, Kalispell

The community college is hosting its third annual Trunk or Treat from 4-7 p.m. in the west facing parking lot on campus. The event is free and open to the public and offers a safe, one-stop trick-or-treating venue for families. FVCC is seeking people to decorate their vehicle trunks and hand out treats to children during the event. FVCC will provide the treats for distribution, and there is no cost to participate. Trick or Treat at Sunburst Village

5:30-7:30 p.m., The Village at Sunburst, Kalispell

Bring the kids for a fun, safe night of trick or treating at the Sunburst Village. Costume contest with prizes!

Whitefish Halloween Costume Contest

6-9 p.m., Downtown Whitefish

One of the all-time great annual costume contests is featuring over $2,000 in cash prizes this year. Participants tour downtown gaining signatures from judges while enjoying the festivities. To participate you must register before 8 p.m. at either Whitefish Handcrafted Sprits, The Chiropractor in the former Crush Lounge or Spotted Bear Spirits. Entry fee is $10 for individuals and $20 for a group of two or more. Participants must have their card stamped by six out of nine judges to qualify.The participating locations include The Bulldog, Craggy Range, Tupelo Grille, Great Northern Brewing Company, Great Northern Bar, Truby’s, Casey’s, MacKenzie River Pizza and ending at the VFW, where winners will be announced at 10 p.m. The grand prize is $500. Must be 21 and older to participate.
