After reaching a significant fundraising milestone, Samaritan House in Kalispell is set to begin construction this summer on a major expansion. The first phase of the project will include the addition of family apartments to the nonprofit homeless shelter, which is located at Second Street West.
“It was amazing to see the community come together to fill the gap,” Chris Krager, Samaritan House Executive Director, said in a press release. “From key connections provided by Jamie Goguen to support from the Whitefish Community Foundation, and donors at every giving level coming together—our community cares about ensuring families have supportive affordable apartments.”
The shelter announced it recently raised $2 million through individual donors and community partners and has now secured $8.3 million toward the ultimate goal of $16.9 million. The latest donations will allow the project to stay on track.
In addition to family housing, future funds will pay for veteran-dedicated units and community space (pictured above).
“No matter the obstacles or hurdles placed in front of us, our amazing community continues to step up,” Lorraine Clarno, Samaritan House Campaign Co-Chair and Kalispell Chamber of Commerce President, said. “The Flathead understands the priceless work Samaritan House does every day for our neighbors working to help themselves to independence.”
After the Montana Department of Environmental Quality completes mitigation work at the site, Swank Enterprises is expected to begin construction next month. To keep the local community informed on the project, Samaritan House (pictured above) will be hosting ongoing tours during the development process.
